A bout of food poisoning in the week leading up to Saturday’s Hangtown Pro Motocross national saw Honda HRC Progressive’s Chance Hymas elect to sit out 250MX moto two in order to aid his recovery.

Round two started strongly again for Hymas, who posted the second fastest time on the combined qualifying timesheets, before launching to the holeshot in moto one.

A pair of early off-track excursions relegated him down the order, before ultimately ending the race in P13. That would mark the end of his weekend altogether after the title prospect chose to sit out the final race.

“I got food poisoning on Monday and couldn’t keep anything in my system until Tuesday afternoon,” Hymas revealed post-race. “I started to feel a bit better, but my stomach never felt completely normal. I was feeling alright yesterday, but I ate something that my stomach didn’t like and ended up throwing up all my food and electrolytes before the first moto.

“I did my best to try and get some food in me, but as you all saw, I had nothing in the tank. Unfortunately, luck wasn’t on my side, but [it] can only go up from here – see you guys next weekend.”

It’s a tough blow for a rider widely tipped to be a 250MX championship contender, with title-rival Haiden Deegan’s perfect scorecard so far putting a sizable 55 points between him and Hymas as the series heads to Lakewood in Colorado this weekend.
