A late crash during the 250SX East/West Showdown left Chance Hymas with a DNF score in Indianapolis on Saturday night, with the chaotic round and subsequent non-finish proving costly – although without injury – for the Honda HRC Progressive rider’s title prospects.

Hymas – who had already fallen in his heat race – was recovering from an early race incident, charging from last position back up to 11th, before clipping a tuff block on the over-under bridge and coming unstuck for the second time.

It was a sizeable impact for the 250SX East contender, whose motorcycle lay stranded at the base of the obstacle for a time while he regathered his composure. Fortunately, he managed to escape any injury in the fall, but was unable to remount his CRF250RWE.

“I was running around 10th, then crashed in the whoops, before working my way up to 11th from dead last,” recalled Hymas, who had arrived for the first Showdown of the year positioned third in the eastern division standings after a consistent start to the season.

“Then I hit a tuff block on the top of the over-under, which caused me to fall from the top of it onto the ground. I knocked the wind out of myself, which was the end of my night. Not a good night here in Indy – I need to bounce back in Birmingham, so I’m focused on recovering for that.”

After recovering from ACL surgery late last year, Hymas returned to racing with only one week on the bike before the 250SX East class opener in Tampa, with the objective being to steadily build back into race shape. Following his Indianapolis DNF, he currently sits sixth in the standings.
