450SX racer sustains broken ribs and punctured lung in impact.
Quad Lock Honda’s Joey Savatgy has confirmed the extent of his injuries sustained during round nine of the Monster Energy Supercross championship in Indianapolis, which includes broken ribs and a punctured lung.
Savatgy was sitting eighth with nine minutes on the clock for the 450SX main event, before being caught out by the notoriously sticky ruts in a rhythm lane, sending him over the bars and directly into the face of the next obstacle.
The incident spelled the end of Savtagy’s night, with the number 17 evaluated by the Alpinestars Mobile Medical Unit, and then transferred to the hospital.
“Not really the way I wanted to spend my Sunday,” Savatgy wrote on Instagram. “[I’m] bummed, had a good night going and felt like I hit the same line as the laps prior. But clearly I made a mistake or something. Punctured lung and some broken ribs, [the] weekend off came at a good time.”
The fall is a tough blow to Savatgy’s Monster Energy Supercross return after spending 2024 on the sidelines, with the Georgia native currently 13th in the overall standings, with a season-best finish of seventh in Tampa.
The recovery timeline is currently unclear for Savatgy, however riders will now have one weekend off, before returning to action in Birmingham, Alabama, on March 22.
