Ruled out in the early stages of last-career Supercross season.
Scans this week have revealed that Eli Tomac completed the night program in Tampa with a broken fibula bone in his leg, subsequently placing the Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing rider on the sidelines.
Tomac, 32, injured his left leg in the second qualifying session at Raymond James Stadium, but managed to race to 17th in the main event despite his fracture.
It was initially thought that he was dealing with an ankle sprain and severe bruising to his lower leg, however, ongoing pain and additional evaluations have confirmed that he did in fact break his leg in the awkward impact, even if he didn’t actually crash.
“Unfortunately, this was more than an ankle sprain and a bruised calf,” Tomac confirmed. “After two days of pain not improving, I got additional scans on my leg, and I do have a broken fibula,” Tomac confirmed.
“This is such a bummer as l’ve never felt better on the motorcycle in Supercross and getting a win at San Diego was great. I don’t have an exact timeframe of recovery at this time, but will be working to come back as soon as possible.”
Tomac had won San Diego’s second round of Monster Energy Supercross 2025 after going head-to-head with Jett Lawrence (Honda HRC Progressive), holding the red plate at that point of the season. He is currently fifth in points, but it’s unclear when he will be fit to return for what was scheduled to be his final year of professional competition.
