Following that heavy fall from the lead in 450SMX moto one at Los Angeles Coliseum, TLD Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing’s Justin Barcia has unveiled a list of injuries sustained and will undergo surgery as part of the recovery process.

In the early stages of the opening race at the SuperMotocross World Championship (SMX) Finals, Barcia made his way past Adam Cianciarulo (Monster Energy Kawasaki) for P1, but crashed heavily in the next section which caused the race to be red-flagged.

The incident brought an end to Barcia’s night, with the number 51 sustaining broken ribs, a broken collarbone and damage to a lung among the injuries.

“Shit happens!” Barcia shared. “We don’t know why, but it all happens for a reason. Definitely down, but not out! I’m beyond excited for 24!

“Currently, I have a few broken ribs, a bad broken collarbone, a beat-up lung and a bit of air in my chest – once the air clears its way out we can get surgery and on the recovery train.”

With his misfortunate at the final event, Barcia finished 14th in the final 450SMX standings. Earlier this year, he was fifth in the 450SX championship, despite being ruled out after multiple injuries sustained in Nashville, and he didn’t make his return until the Unadilla round of Pro Motocross.
