Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Cooper Webb was plagued with stomach issues in Chicago, limiting his performance in what was a ‘rough day’ on his way to seventh overall for 450SMX playoff two.

Webb’s reunion with the Star Racing outfit was made official just hours out from the opening round of the post-season last weekend in Charlotte and he concluded the first playoff P8.

After that steep learning weekend, Webb was determined to move forward at Chicagoland, however, he was struck with sickness on Saturday. Ultimately, the YZ450F rider qualified 12th fastest and was able to notch an 8-7 scorecard for seventh overall, running as high as fourth in the second outing.

“Today was a very rough day for me,” Webb recalled. “I woke up this morning with some kind of sickness and didn’t feel well all day. I had some stomach issues and I just felt like crap. I slept as much as I could today – it was just a really rough day.

“The first moto, I started where I finished and didn’t ride great. In the second one, I got a little bit better start and rode a little bit better, but I didn’t have the energy and the flow at all. It’s definitely a day I’d like to forget and move on. We’ll go back to work this week, get recovered, and start supercross prep for next weekend.”

Ahead of the SuperMotocross World Championship (SMX) finals this Friday and Saturday at LA Coliseum, Webb is sixth in the 450SMX standings as a potential 75 points are on offer for the winner of upcoming the season-ending event.
