It was a welcome return to the top step for Kawasaki Racing Team’s Romain Febvre at the MXGP of Sumbawa, emerging with the overall victory on Sunday in Indonesia as it was a weekend to remember for Lucas Coenen who delivered a commanding sweep in MX2.

Qualifying race winner Febvre looked on track to take the moto one victory, however, a fall while out front saw him relinquish the lead to Jorge Prado (Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing) and ultimately finish the race in second behind the red plate-holder.

The number three bounced back to take the race two win and with that the overall victory, Prado second at the MXGP of Sumbawa-Indonesia courtesy of a 1-3 scorecard.

Completing the overall podium was Jeremy Seewer (Monster Energy Yamaha) with 3-2 results, ahead of teammate Glenn Coldenhoff in fourth (4-5) and Calvin Vlaanderen (6-4) inside the top five.

In terms of the MXGP World Championship standings, Prado holds a 101-point advantage ahead of Febvre as the series resumes next weekend in Lombok.

Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Coenen won every MX2 race in the 10th round of the season on his way to a career-first overall victory in the world championship category.

Coenen took the lead in the late stages of moto one from Liam Everts (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) to secure the win, before leading every lap in the final race to wrap up a perfect round.

A solid 2-2 scorecard from Everts saw him second overall for the round, while Jago Geerts (Monster Energy Yamaha) – who notably crashed out of the lead in moto one – completed the day third thanks to 5-3 scores.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Andrea Adamo and Monster Energy Yamaha’s Thibault Benistant finished the round fourth and fifth, notching 3-7 and 6-4 results respectively.

Adamo leads the 2023 MX2 World Championship standings by five points ahead of Benistant, as Kay de Wolf (Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing) is third and 22 points from the red plate after 9-9 finishes at round 10.
