Troy Lee Designs Red Bull GasGas rider Justin Barcia has revealed multiple injuries sustained in his crash at Nashville, undergoing surgery on a broken collarbone this week, as well as breaking his right shoulder and suffering two broken ribs.

The 31-year-old will miss the final two races of the 2023 Monster Energy Supercross Championship, which will see the factory GasGas team absent altogether with both 250SX riders, Pierce Brown and Michael Mosiman, also sidelined.

Barcia’s injuries came just one week following his breakout first win of the year onboard the current MC 450F Factory Edition at East Rutherford and he carried that momentum by picking up the heat race win in Tennessee.

“I had surgery on Monday on my collarbone,” Barcia commented. “That’s feeling a lot better today. I ended up breaking two ribs and broke my right shoulder. The shoulder doesn’t need any surgery, so that’s great.

“I’m feeling a lot better today and the next few days are just gonna keep getting better, and better, and better – hopefully I can start training soon. Obviously, not on the dirt bike for a little bit, but just wanted to give a shoutout to everyone this season.

“It was definitely, for me, my best – mentally and physically – Supercross season and I really enjoyed it, had a lot of fun. Definitely a bummer to go out this way, but things happen though, and I can’t wait to be back, racing hard, and stronger than ever.”

Barcia starred throughout the Supercross series, achieving no less than six podiums before being injured, and comfortably featuring inside the top-five in points with two rounds remaining. He recently also confirmed that he has re-signed with GasGas through the 2024 season.
