Team Honda HRC’s Jett Lawrence built on his 250MX points lead with another 1-1 result at round seven of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship at Millville, MN.

Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jo Shimoda and Team Honda HRC’s Hunter Lawrence completed the Spring Creek podium.

Jett took the win of the opening 250MX moto after another race-long battle with his brother and team-mate, Hunter Lawrence.

The defending champ and series leader grabbed the holeshot, with Justin Cooper (Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing) and Hunter in hot pursuit. Cooper would slide into the lead early, but lost his front wheel in a rut several corners later, going down and holding up Jett in the process.

Hunter capitalised by taking the lead, but it was short-lived as Jett caught and passed him two three laps later. However, Hunter refused to give up and again got by his younger brother and pulled out a two-second lap.

With two laps remaining, Jett cut the advantage, then capitalised when Hunter was held up by lapped riders to take the lead and a narrow 0.5s win.

Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Jo Shimoda recovered impressively from a mid-pack start to finish a distant third, after a last-lap pass on Max Vohland (Red Bull KTM).

Jett Lawrence comfortably won the second 250MX moto to score another 1-1 round result and build his championship lead.

After a red-flag restart, Justin Cooper jumped to the holeshot, followed by Jett Lawrence and Jo Shimoda.

Hunter Lawrence, who had led the race before it was red-flagged, found himself in ninth after the restart, but struggled to work his way through the pack.

Up front, Jett passed Cooper for the lead on the third lap and began to build a buffer, while Shimoda threw everything at Cooper for several laps, eventually finding an opening and moving into second with half of the race remaining.

Back in the pack, Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing team-mates Nate Thrasher and Nick Romano had a spectacular mid-air crash that took them both out of the top 10.

The margins between Lawrence, Shimoda and Cooper stabilized as the laps wore down and they would cross the line in that order, with Jett finishing 7.9 seconds ahead of Shimoda.

Hampshire finished a distant fourth, ahead of Hunter Lawrence.

P6-P10 were filled by Max Vohland, Seth Hammaker, Ryder DiFrancesco (Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki), Pierce Brown (TLD Red Bull KTM) and Carson Mumford (Bar X Suzuki).

Jett now holds a comfortable 27-point lead over his brother Hunter in the championship fight, with Jo Shimoda in third.

Round eight of the Pro Motocross will be held at Washougal, WA, on 23 July.
