Qualifying at the Atlanta Motor Speedway round of 2022 Monster Energy Supercross was led by Chase Sexton in 450SX this afternoon, as Jett Lawrence and Nate Thrasher were quickest on their coasts ahead of the 250SX East/West Showdown.

The lone 450SX session due to weather in the area was led by Team Honda HRC’s Sexton at 1m25.181s, just one-tenth up on Jason Anderson (Monster Energy Kawasaki), who recorded a 1m25.286s.

Last week’s winner Marvin Musquin (Red Bull KTM) slotted into third, followed by red plate-holder Eli Tomac (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha) and Malcolm Stewart (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) inside the top five.

Positions six through 10 featured Justin Barcia (TLD Red Bull GasGas), defending champion Cooper Webb (Red Bull KTM) as he returns to action, Justin Bogle (Twisted Tea Suzuki), Justin Brayton (Smartop Bullfrog Spas MCR Honda) and Freddie Noren (Brown’s RV Superstore Cole Racing KTM).

Regions were split during the sessions and first up it was 250SX East, where runaway points-leader Jett Lawrence (Team Honda HRC) topped the charts with a 1m27.662s lap-time.

The younger Lawrence brother – marginally fastest of both coasts – was over a second clear of the returning Austin Forkner (Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki).

Mitchell Oldenburg (Smartop Bullfrog Spas MCR Honda) continued his solid form in P3, as the top five was completed by Jordon Smith (Fire Power Honda Racing) and RJ Hampshire (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna).

Once 250SX West was on-track, Nate Thrasher posted a 1m27.687s to effectively match Lawrence from the session prior and edge Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha teammate Christian Craig on the time-sheets.

Next in line was Hunter Lawrence (Team Honda HRC) despite crashing heavily on press-day, with Michael Mosiman (TLD Red Bull GasGas) and Garrett Marchbanks (Muc-Off FXR ClubMX Yamaha) in the fourth and fifth places. A notable non-qualifier was Max Vohland, the Red Bull KTM rider missing the fast 20 in his session.
