450MX points leader Dylan Ferrandis was unhappy following round six of the 2021 Pro Motocross season, despite the fact that his lead in the championship ballooned to 32 points.

The Frenchman came into the day at Spring Creek having not faced much adversity in the opening half of the season, notching podiums in all 10 motos in the first five rounds.

After struggling in practice, the podium trend continued in moto one as Ferrandis took second behind a steadfast Justin Barcia (TLD Red Bull GasGas) who managed his first moto win of the season.

“It was not the best day for me at Millville,” Ferrandis explained. “I didn’t have a good feeling in practice. Then in the first moto, I got a good start and was fighting for the win but couldn’t find a way to pass (Justin) Barcia and finished second.”

Ferrandis’ main title rival Ken Roczen (Team Honda HRC) hit the ground hard in the first corner, ending his race before it got underway and extending Ferrandis’ points lead in the process.

Unfortunately for the 450 rookie, luck turned against him in the final moto of the day, with multiple crashes seeing him drop as low as 24th in the running order early on, eventually salvaging a fifth-place finish to take third overall.

“In Moto 2, I got a bad start and then crashed after the downhill on the first lap and had another crash on Lap 2,” he continued. “I had to dig deep to come back to fifth and managed to finish third overall.

“It was a good day for the points, but I’m not really happy with myself. We’re going to get back to training next week to be ready for Washougal.”

Through the struggles, Ferrandis comes into the second half of the season this weekend at Washougal leading Roczen by 32 points with 12 motos left to determine the 2021 championship.
