Rockstar Energy Husqvarna rider Dean Wilson has announced he’s been battling through Epstein-Barr Virus in the opening rounds of the 2021 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross season.

On the heels of a successful campaign in the Monster Energy Supercross championship that saw him find the top ten in seven of the last eight rounds, Wilson has yet to find the top 10 so far as the outdoor championship got underway.

After notching his best finish so far this season on Saturday at Thunder Valley, taking home 12-12 moto finishes for 12th overall, Wilson announced he’s been diagnosed with Epstein-Barr.

“I always try to be transparent with you guys as much as I can,” Wilson explained. “I have been struggling with my energy since just before outdoors. I thought it was just a couple rough days from testing & training but my tiredness never went away so I got a full blood panel.

“Unfortunately, I was EBV positive, which has been really tough to deal with as I have never felt anything like this before. I feel sleepy / no energy 24/7, I’m trying my best to do the right things to get my health back on track.”

Fortunately, Wilson will have two weeks off to continue to recover as the series takes a weekend off ahead of the next round at RedBud. As for his performance at High Point, Wilson is looking for better starts moving forward to improve.

“I felt that I had a little bit of improvement with my riding in the second moto and felt a little better,” he continued. “It’s not good to be outside the top-10 but we’re going to shoot to be there for the rest of this season and I’ve really got to work on my starts to make that a little bit easier.
“In the second moto, I came from 24th on the first lap, so I need to be better than that. Overall, not the best finishes but we’re healthy and moving onto the next race.”
