450 rookie sensation Dylan Ferrandis battled for the overall win at the third round of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross season at High Point to take the overall ahead of Monster Energy Kawasaki teammates Adam Cianciarulo and Eli Tomac.

It was an exciting day of racing at round three of the season in Mt. Morris, Pennsylvania, as the track came together perfect after a threat of rain loomed in the opening half of the day.

The opening 450 holeshot went to Cianciarulo who charged to the lead ahead of Team Honda HRC teammates Chase Sexton and Ken Roczen after the opening lap.

The battle deeper in the field was one to watch early in the moto, with Marvin Musquin (Red Bull KTM), Ferrandis, Eli Tomac (Monster Energy Kawasaki), Joey Savatgy (Rocky Mountain ATV/MC KTM), Aaron Plessinger (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha) and Justin Barcia (TLD Red Bull GasGas) in a dog fight for the top 10.

The Honda duo pressured Cianciarulo at the halfway point to no avail, with Roczen eventually hitting the ground and dropping back to fifth.

Cianciarulo eventually stretched out a gap over Sexton who found himself on the ground, leaving the Monster Energy Kawasaki rider to take the win.

Second went to Ferrandis, followed by Roczen who recovered well, with Sexton and Plessinger rounding out the top five.

Moto two was full of surprises and incredible action, with Plessinger grabbing the lead on the opening lap only to be overtaken quickly by Cianciarulo and a resurgent Tomac.

Roczen started the moto buried in 14th place, eventually finding his way into the top five just a few laps into the moto, making some incredible passes on his way into the battle for the podium.

Roczen didn’t wait long to pull the trigger on a pass for third on Ferrandis, but the Frenchman battled back hard to maintain third place and set out after Cianciarulo in third.

With Tomac stretching out a gap, the trio of Cianciarulo, Ferrandis and Roczen went to battle. At times going three wide and swapping positions multiple times over the course of a few laps, Ferrandis settled out into second where he’d finish, taking the overall win with 2-2 on the day.

Tomac’s 6-1 moto finishes put him on the overall podium in third place, with the Kawasaki rider later stating he thinks he can keep the momentum going into the coming rounds.

Cianciarulo finished the day second overall with 1-4 finishes, putting him fourth overall in the points just 32 back from Ferrandis. Tomac’s 6-1 moto finish gave him third overall on the day, a much-needed boost following a tough start to the season.

He edged out fourth-place finisher Roczen for the final spot on the podium, the German rider taking home 3-3 finishes on the day, losing the red plate as he drops three points back of Ferrandis in the standings.

Fifth was Sexton with 4-5 moto scores, continuing to show plenty of speed but making small mistakes in both motos that cost him a shot at the podium.

Plessinger finished the day sixth overall after mixing it up at the front throughout the day, eventually going 5-8 to finish ahead of Barcia who logged 9-6 moto scores.

A trio of KTM’s rounded out the top 10, with Musquin’s 10-7 giving him eighth overall, Savatgy going 8-9 in ninth and Cooper Webb (Red Bull KTM) rounding out the top 10 going 7-11 on the day.

The series now takes a weekend off before heading to RedBud MX over the Fourth of July weekend, with Ferrandis atop the standings with 133 points, just three ahead of Roczen in second.
