Roczen and Cooper lead High Point qualifying

The field is set for Pro Motocross round three.

The qualifying sessions from round three of the 2021 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross season are done and dusted from High Point Raceway, with Ken Roczen (Team Honda HRC) taking the top spot in the 450 class, while Justin Cooper led the 250s.

While there was rain looming in the area, both sessions of qualifying were dry with unique track conditions as the track crew kept the racing surface prepared for the threat of rain.

In the 450 class, Roczen’s dominance continued on the heels of three straight moto wins. His time of 1m59.440s from the opening session was the benchmark for the rest of the field.

Roczen was followed closely by Adam Cianciarulo, who actually topped the second session, with a time of 2m00.398 from said session putting him just under a second back from Roczen.

Roczen’s teammate Chase Sexton put his CRF450 rounded out the top three, ahead of rookie sensation Dylan Ferrandis (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha) in fourth as the first rider in the 2m02s range.

Fifth place went to Joey Savatgy as he continues to find form aboard his Rocky Mountain ATV/MC KTM early this season, looking to find his first top 10 of the year at High Point today.

Eli Tomac found himself in sixth overall after qualifying as he looks to improve following a rough go at the opening two rounds. The Monster Energy Kawasaki found himself among a group of riders separated by under half a second from fourth to eighth place.

Seventh and eighth on the timesheets went to Red Bull KTM teammates Cooper Webb and Marvin Musquin. The KTM duo looking to put themselves closer toward the front and into the top five for the first time this season.

Rounding out the top 10 was Justin Barcia (TLD Red Bull GasGas) in ninth as the first rider in the 2m03s range, with Justin Bogle (Rocky Mountain ATV/MC KTM)  just behind him in 10th.

The 250 qualifying timesheets were topped by Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha’s Justin Cooper, with his lap of 2:01.738s. On the heels of his overall win at Thunder Valley with a 2-2 finish, Cooper looks to close a 10 point gap in points to Jett Lawrence (Team Honda HRC) in the title chase.

Cooper’s time in the opening session led Hunter Lawrence (Team Honda HRC) who clocked a 2:02.022 for second place, with RJ Hampshire (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) rounding out the top three.

Fourth was Jett Lawrence, with his time from the second session putting him just ahead of Austin Forkner (Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki) who took the final spot in the top five as he clocked a 2:02.820s lap.

Sixth place was Jalek Swoll aboard his Rockstar Energy Husqvarna, who’s looking for his first top-five of the season as the series gets back underway following the break.

Garrett Marchbanks (ClubMX Yamaha)d was seventh as the first rider in the 2:03s range as he continues to impress aboard his ClubMX Yamaha early in the season.

Eighth was Jo Shimoda who’s looking for his first podium of the season, ahead of two privateers from group B, Jack Chambers (KTM) and Jace Kessler (Yamaha) rounding out the top 10.
