The 2021 Monster Energy Supercross rookie of the year honors were awarded on Saturday in Salt Lake City, with Dylan Ferrandis announced as the 450SX rookie, while Seth Hammaker took the spot for the 250SX class.

After taking both the 250SX West and 250 Pro Motocross championships in 2020, Ferrandis had a solid freshman season of 450SX action.

The Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha rider got off to a solid start with a podium in the second round of the season and finished but one of the first six rounds inside the top 10.

After a run of rough races through the mid-season, the Frenchman bounced back in the latter half of the season to take home three more top-fives and finished the season with back-to-back fourth-place finishes.

In the 250SX class, Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s rookie standout Hammaker took the rookie honors after an impressive season that saw him finish fourth overall in the 250SX West class.

Despite showing a ton of speed, Hammaker’s season got off to a rough start, with a sixth and 11th in the opening rounds, but when the series landed in Arlington, the puzzle pieces came together and he grabbed a win in just his third race.

“I’m super excited to be awarded the rookie of the year,” said Hammaker. “It means a lot to me and I put in a lot of hard work this season. I’m happy to see it pay off.

“It has been an awesome rookie season and I can say that I’ve learned a lot. Whether it was good or bad, I’ll take my experience into next year to fight for the championship.”

His results down quite match his ability after some blunders that are typical of a rookie season of Supercross, but he managed to finish the season with top fives at four of the last five races, two of them being podiums.

The duo now shifts focus to outdoors with the series set to kick-off on 29 May at Fox Raceway in Pala, California.
