Championship leader Cooper Webb shared his thoughts and expectations on what an all-new venue will bring to the Supercross championship, as the series heads to Atlanta Motor Speedway for a three-race residency.

The Atlanta Supercross in previous years was known for classic red clay inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium. For the upcoming three Atlanta rounds of the 2021 Monster Energy Supercross season, riders will face an outdoor track with a similar layout to Daytona Supercross, at an all-new venue.

Webb shared his thoughts on the upcoming races with the media following his win at round 12, expressing excitement and curiosity going into the two-week break in Supercross action.

“It’ll be different,” Webb explained, “it’s cool because I don’t think any of us have an advantage or know how it’s going to be at all. So I do think that’s kind of cool. A little different I’m sure than our traditional in the stadium supercross’.

“Outside weather can always play a factor. So yeah, that Atlanta dirt is usually pretty good, so hopefully they can keep it good all week and we’ll have a good track.”

While the track layouts will resemble Daytona, they’re being constructed by different designers and builders than are typically used in Daytona, which is something Webb feels will be a big question mark as the series kicks back off on 10 April.

“I’m sure it will be somewhat Daytona style,” he continued. “I would have to imagine, just [based] off the floor plan or whatever you want to call it. But it seems like they’re going to try to make it more ‘supercrossy’ is the way the track map looks and stuff like that.

“I think once they get there and see how everything is that’s when I think everyone will know. We see it a lot where the track maps are one thing and we get there and it’s totally different. Like I said, I think we’ll see how it goes, I’m sure the red clay will be what they’re using and I’m sure [it will be] a longer lap time, which will be cool. I’m excited to see how it ends up.”
