A mistake in the whoops cost Troy Lee Designs Red Bull GasGas rider Justin Barcia a shot at his third podium of the 2021 Monster Energy Supercross season.

A roller coaster of a season in the 450SX class continues for Barcia, after winning the opening round of the season he’s had a couple of mishaps that have cost him vital points in the championship.

The latest of those came on Saturday night, as he battled Zach Osborne (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) for the final spot on the podium.

“It was a bummer mistake in the whoops that really cost me the podium,” Barcia said following the race. “I pushed as hard as I could to try to get the pass on him but wasn’t able to get it done.”

Barcia was able to limit the damage by making a miraculous save as he nearly hit the ground following the mistake, recovering quickly to take fourth place on the night.

“I definitely know I have the speed, I just need to put everything together and move on from it. It was a little frustrating but it was good riding and I’m healthy and ready to move onto the next Orlando.”

He now sits fifth overall in the 450SX championship standings as the series continues in Orlando this weekend at Camping World Stadium.
