250SX West red-plate holder Justin Cooper says he’ll learn from a mixed encounter at Glendale’s fourth round of Monster Energy Supercross, where he saw his points lead reduced to three.

The Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing rider started his day with a heavy crash in qualifying, although he was able to remount and record the second fastest time.

Cooper’s woes continued in the first of three main events when he crashed twice in the opening stages, while main event two saw him crash while leading the field before salvaging ninth.

The points leader returned to form in the final main event with a commanding ride, securing victory and putting a positive end to what was a bittersweet night. His 17-9-1 scorecard granted him ninth overall.

“It was a rollercoaster night in Glendale,” said Cooper. “The track conditions were really tricky and traction was very hard to maintain.

“I was able to come back with the win in the third main and hold onto the points lead. We’re going take the positives and learn from the mistakes and move on to next weekend and go for the win again.”

Cooper leads teammate and reigning champion Dylan Ferrandis (Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing) by three points heading into Oakland’s fifth round this weekend.
